The moon over Edinburgh tonight

The moon over Edinburgh tonight

I went out with my camera to get a night shot of Edinburgh Castle. However, there are loads of roadworks because the forthcoming tram system so there are loads of diversions in place and I ended up getting a bit lost. No surprise to those that know me! Anyway by luck I ended up at the Royal Observatory.

Unfortunately the tripod I had with me is not designed to carry the heft of my 100-400mm lens. So I ended up hand holding this shot. I also had a x1.4 teleconvertor on it not to mention the x1.6 crop factor for the EOS 350D. So that’s an equivalent focal length of 896mm. I’m surprised I got any usable shots tonight. Slightly blurry but no surprise given the conditions.

If you’re interested in astronomy you might find dark sky scotland of interest. They organise astronomy events throughout Scotland. Not sure if the project is still active. I came across it a few months ago in a flyer in the Sunday Herald.

Creag An Tuirc

Thought I’d go out and stretch my legs and get some nice fresh air in my lungs. Ended up heading towards Balquhidder. According to the plaque on the cairn this is the ancient rallying place of Clan Labhran. Overlooking Balquhidder and looking towards Loch Voil.
