Burgh Men of Rothesay
February 9, 2009, 12:13 am
I was over at my Gran’s at the weekend and she had a photocopy of a photo of my great granddad so I snapped the photocopy with my panasonic FZ18, hand held under a fluorescent light. Not the best conditions. I’ll take my scanner down next time and scan in the original.
My great granddad, Willie Stewart - top right, was a gaffer in the burgh. Not sure when this was taken but my Gran reckons it was in the early sixties. Wonder if you recognise any of your relatives? I know the chap, top row, second from the left was called Harry and he went to Australia. I’ll need to check the rest of the details with my Gran.

The moon tonight
October 13, 2008, 11:23 pm
I went out with my camera to get a night shot of Edinburgh Castle. However, there are loads of roadworks because the forthcoming tram system so there are loads of diversions in place and I ended up getting a bit lost. No surprise to those that know me! Anyway by luck I ended up at the Royal Observatory.
Unfortunately the tripod I had with me is not designed to carry the heft of my 100-400mm lens. So I ended up hand holding this shot. I also had a x1.4 teleconvertor on it not to mention the x1.6 crop factor for the EOS 350D. So that’s an equivalent focal length of 896mm. I’m surprised I got any usable shots tonight. Slightly blurry but no surprise given the conditions.
If you’re interested in astronomy you might find dark sky scotland of interest. They organise astronomy events throughout Scotland. Not sure if the project is still active. I came across it a few months ago in a flyer in the Sunday Herald.

It’s been a while…
September 11, 2008, 6:43 pm
I’m a bit short of time these days and my old blog which I wrote the code for needed some updating which I don’t have time to do. So in the meantime I’ve switched over to wordpress. You shouldn’t see too much of a difference though. Maybe more posts.
So trawling through the archives as I’ve not had time to go out with my camera either is a photo of the inside the the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. This was the first time I’d attended a private function there and a great time was had by all. They even had someone playing the massive pipe organ which you can see at the centre of the picture.
