Flyover

On Saturday, 22 July 2006, I was one of three Scottish bloggers invited onto the film set of the new sony bravia advert being shot in Toryglen, Glasgow. We flew over the film set by helicopter which was fun and the pilot very kindly flew over my old house a mile away in Rutherglen. Cool!
By the time we got to the film set they'd blocked off the best viewing area as paint was about to explode onto the low rise block of flats. We also weren't allowed to take our own cameras on set but we were given a loan of a sony cybershot to take photos. Still waiting for the photos back from sony. And that was pretty much it. We didn't see anymore paint exploding. For most of the remaining few hours we sat around on the grass watching the 200-strong film crew working away. It was good meeting the other two bloggers as well. Tim Sandys is an artist and Gary Marshall is a technology journalist (not the same Gary that posts here).

These are some stills shots from the film set of the new sony bravia advert being shot in Toryglen, Glasgow taken last Sunday. We thought it was going to be the finale of the paint exploding on the high rise block but that didn't happen till Tuesday. They were exploding barrels of paint from the cranes overhead on Sunday.

On Friday the Evening Times, the local evening newspaper for Glasgow revealed that the new sony bravia advert would be shot in Toryglen, Glasgow, in a follow up to the balls advert shot in San Francisco. My friend and I were over on Sunday and I got this footage. I was also there on Friday and Saturday but more on that later.

A Glasgow institution reopens
July 15, 2006, 6:44 pm

The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum reopened to the public on Tuesday 11 July 2006 after a three-year refurbishment. Three years already. The Art Galleries are a bit of a Glasgow institution. I remember several visits there when I was in primary school. I can just about remember that far back. First impressions are that it is definitely more people friendly. There's a lot less behind glass and a lot more at eye level. As expected though, this being the first weekend after its reopening it was really, really busy and I didn't get a chance to look at anything in detail. Will be back.

Port Righ Bay Bird, Carradale

I was out at Port Righ, Carradale on the west coast of Scotland and recorded this bird. I've no idea what the bird is or if it is in fact the bird in the photo. The loud repetitive sound was coming from the tree in the top right photo and the middle right photo is the only bird I could see but it was too far away to say for sure if this was the source. I've been through my book of Scottish Birds by Valerie Thom trying to match up the images with the sound files on the rspb website. Still trying to find a match. It's a good way to learn other bird calls though!
UPDATE: Thanks to the folks over at birdforum.net who identified this little bird as a chaffinch and also pointed out that there are also house sparrows, a blackbird and a gull on the audio clip.

I was minding my own business recording some wave sounds with my m-audio recorder and inadvertently got too close to a couple of nesting oystercatchers. They weren't too happy about me being there!

Evening drive to the Loup of Fintry

I took this video clip back in April 2006. A saturday evening drive to the Loup of Fintry. I found this place doing the GCNPAX geocache last year. I've discovered some really great places that I would never have known about had it not been for geocaching. I made a short video last year about geocaching if you haven't heard of it before.
