I got out my trusty Canon PowerShot G3 last night before I went to bed and set it up to take this time lapse video of a lily. The G3 has a built-in intervalometer. So this was set to take a picture at 5 minute intervals over a 7 hour period. I thought the lily would open up at a pretty linear pace but it didn't. Most of it's movement was in the last hour. So when I do this again I need to judge when that hour is and reduce the interval time.

Went for an early evening drive to Gullane last night on the east coast of Scotland. This was my first visit there and I'll definitely be back. Had a very pleasant walk along the beach then round by the wooded area. My plan was to get some seabird photos but they were too far offshore for my lens. I've moved house so it's been a bit quiet round the website for a couple of months. I finally came to the the end of my tether with the daily commute between Glasgow and Edinburgh. I'd been doing that for three and a half years. I have no idea how I managed it for so long and it's only now that I'm not doing that journey everyday that I realise how much of an impact it had on my life. I was walking through the botanic gardens in Glasgow on Sunday morning and heard a rummaging noise from inside a bin. This enterprising squirrel was inside the bin getting his breakfast. Jings crivvens February already. I felt the urge to go and stare at the stars last night. Something I don't get a chance to do that often these days. I've been interested in astronomy since I was 8. I'm not geeky about it though. I'm more content, in the words of Iris Dement, to "let the mystery be". If I think about it too much my brain starts going into meltdown trying to comprehend the scale, what's out there, what's the point, etc.

Orion is the first constellation I managed to identify all those years ago and so I regard orion as *my* constellation :-) Always makes me smile when I see it. The west of Scotland has been hammered by extremely bad weather recently which has severely disrupted the boats going over to Rothesay on the Isle of Bute. I'd been trying to get over to see my Gran. This is a short clip from a trip to Lower Largo in Fife last Sunday. It's the first time I've been there. A nice wee place. It was very cold though. Brrr. Didn't know anything about Lower Largo till I did a google search when I got back home. It was the birth place of Alexander Selkirk who apparently provided the inspiration for Daniel Defoe's "Robinson Crusoe" novel which I have to say have never read or been interested in. This is the inscription on the wall at the Alexander Selkirk statue.
